Top 5 Benefits of Lavender Oil (+ How to Use It)

March 7, 2018

In today’s post, we’re sharing 5 benefits of lavender, easily one of our favourite oils, and tips on how to use it!  If we could only choose one oil, it would be lavender because it has SO many benefits, and it smells heavenly.  It’s like the jack of all trades of oils, and we include it all the time in our DIY products.

We could go on and on about its benefits, but we’ve narrowed it down to our 5 favourites.

1. Sleep Aid

The soothing and calming properties of lavender oil make it an amazing sleep aid.  If you have trouble winding down at the end of the day and calming a racing mind, try incorporating lavender into your nightly routine.

How to use it: Add a few drops to a diffuser or place a couple drops of oil onto a Kleenex and tuck it into your pillow.

2. Relaxation

Lavender isn’t just for evenings- it’s also a wonderful oil to bring calm and ease into your day.  And don’t worry, it won’t make you drowsy- lavender doesn’t actually make you fall asleep, it just relaxes and soothes the mind and nerves, so it’s great for promoting relaxation both during the day and at night.

How to use it: Add a few drops to a diffuser or mix a few drops into a body oil or moisturizer and apply.  You can really apply it anywhere, but the tops of your ears, nape of your neck, wrists, and big toe are great spots.

3. Skin Care

Lavender’s soothing properties aren’t just great for your mind, they’re also great for your skin!  The oil soothes and rejuvenates all skin types and is generally safe for sensitive skin types as well.  Be sure to do a patch test before using regularly.

How to use it:  You shouldn’t apply undiluted oils directly to sensitive skin.  Instead mix a few drops into your face oil or moisturizer and apply daily.

4. Cleaning

Usually lavender’s scent is associated with fresh laundry, but it’s actually great for all types of cleaning!  Lavender’s antiseptic and antifungal properties make it a powerful cleaning aid.

How to use it:  Add a few drops of lavender into your cleaning products or make your own by combining ½ cup distilled water, ½ cup vinegar, and 20 drops of lavender oil.

5. Sunburn Relief

Got a little too much sun?  Bring on the lavender!  Lavender is the perfect oil to calm irritated skin and will help to speed up the healing process.

How to use it: add a few drops of lavender to aloe vera gel and apply to your skin- it will feel amazing on your burn!  This is also a great treatment for most types of skin irritations. Store it in the refrigerator for even more cooling.

What are your favourite uses for lavender?  We’d love to hear from you!
